CFP_LOGO_olympiad_1240th World Chess Olympiad is going to be held from 27th August to 10th September 2012 in Istanbul. Teams from 162 countries are taking part for both the open section and the women section. Teams for both section consist of 4 players and a reserve plus one manager. The Olympiad is held regularly at two year intervals in the autumn of the even numbered years (2006, 2008, etc.). Ukrine will defend its title.

Pakistan team is leaving for istalbul on 26th August in two groups one from Islamabad and one from Karachi. Open team has the following composition: International Chess Master Mahmood Lodhi 2358 (Lahore-), National Master Anwar Qureshi 2235 (Hyderabad), National Master Waqar Ahmad Madni 2062 (Pakpattan), National Master Haseeb Ahmad 2296 (Karachi) and reserve is National Master Asifur Rehman unrated (Karachi). Nida Siddiqui is the only FIDE rated player in women section and in Pakistan as well.

Pakistan is placed in E category in both sections. In 39th Khanty Mansysk Olympiad, Pakistan was unable to defend its title in the category "E" and got second place. Whereas Pakistan won the Gold Medal in Category "E" in 38th Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008.  In women section in Khanty Pakistan got 109th position out of 115 countries by winning only 2 matches out of 11, as compare to Dresden Olympiad where Pakistan women team got 102nd position out of 114 nations by winning 3 matches out of 11. Lets see what happens in Istanbul, we should hope for better.

Mr. Altaf Ahmad Chaudhry, President Chess Federation of Pakistan (CFP) makes all this possible out of his own pocket as CFP could not find any sponsor.
